The Ogun State Police Command says it has recovered the severed head
of the two-year-old infant beheaded last week by a Nigerien citizen,
Mamodu Bashir Ibrahim at Ofada, in Mowe area of Obafemi Owode local government area of the state.
The killer of the infant who also raped the mother before fleeing the scene, was later arrested at Mowe by police detectives attached to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Eleweran, Abeokuta, with the assistance of community members.
The suspect took the investigation team to
Mokola area of Ibadan, Oyo State, where the infant’s head was recovered
in a bag in the bush last Tuesday.
The state police public relations officer,
Deputy Superintendent, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the suspect had
already confessed to the crime “but is still keeping the identity of
those who sent him to get the ‘commodity’.”
However, operatives attached to the Adatan
Division of the command, led by the divisional police officer, have
arrested four suspects in connection with the killing of a 35-year-old
alleged to have been mentally ill.
The victim, Kazeem Akindele of No 1, Onikola Street, Iberekodo,
Abeokuta, was lynched and killed for allegedly attempting to kidnap a
19-year-old girl in the Kugba area, Abeokuta.
The suspects and other angry youths in the area who perpetrated the deed are now at large.
Adejobi also disclosed that the commissioner
of police had ordered the arrest of the fleeing suspects “who meted out
such jungle justice”.
The suspects arrested are Fausat Ogunbiyi, Mariam Yahaya, Blessing Joseph and Nurudeen Adebayo.
Adejobi also assured that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as the command concludes its investigation.
